Non-visual disabilites
At airBaltic, we are committed to ensuring that every passenger feels comfortable and confident when flying with us. We recognize the Hidden Disabilities such as Sunflower symbol and understand that some passengers may need a bit more time, patience, and understanding. This guide will help you plan a smoother journey – before, during, and after your flight.
Planning your flight
- Book early – Book your flight at least 48 hours before you travel, so we have time to get you the best support
- Choose non-stop flights – Direct flights mean less time in airports
- Tell us your needs – You can let us know if you or someone travelling with you require additional assistance
- Pack comfort items – Bring things that help you stay calm (headphones, snacks, fidget toys, etc.).
- Important: If you or your loved one has memory loss or confusion (for example, Alzheimer’s), someone should travel with you to make sure you stay on track.
At the airport
Airports can be loud and busy. Here's how to make it easier:
- Arrive early – Come at least 2 hours before your flight.
- Ask for assistance – Our staff can help you check in, go through security, and get to your gate.
- Security can be stressful – Tell the staff if you need extra time or a slower explanation of the process
- Look for quiet spaces – Some airports have quiet rooms. Ask airport staff if you’d like to use one
- Check in your bag early – Some airports let you check in your baggage the day before. This can make travel day easier
- Tip: Monitors and gate agents will share flight information. Feel free to ask airport staff if you need help understanding it.
- Everyone is different. Please tell us clearly what kind of help you need. We’re here for you!
During the flight
Once you're on the plane, our crew will help make your flight comfortable.
- Let the crew know – Tell us if you or someone with you has a non-visual disability. We’ll help if needed.
- Our crew can help with:
- Finding your seat
- Storing bags
- Opening food or drinks
- We cannot help with:
- Taking medication
- Using the lavatory
- Personal care
- Safety reminder: You must be able to follow safety instructions. If not, please travel with someone who can assist you.
- Light changes – Cabin lights may change. Sunglasses or an eye mask can help.
- Bring calming items – Anything that helps you feel safe or relaxed is welcome on board.
After the flight
- Take your time – Airports can be loud and busy. It’s okay to pause and rest.
- Celebrate your success! – Recognize the effort it took to travel. This helps build confidence for next time.
