Flying during pregnancy
At airBaltic, we want you to feel safe and comfortable when flying with us. Flying during pregnancy is usually safe, but there are a few things you should know to make your trip easier.
Planning your flight
Before you book your flight, talk to your doctor to make sure it’s safe for you to fly. You might need a doctor’s note depending on how far along you are:
- Up to 27 weeks – you can fly without limits, but we advise always carrying a pregnancy passport.
- 28–36 weeks (one baby) – you need a doctor's note (in English) or a filled-in pregnancy statement form. It must be dated within 14 days of your flight.
- 28–32 weeks (twins or more) – you need the same kind of note or form as described above.
- After 36 weeks (one baby) or 32 weeks (twins or more) – you can’t fly with airBaltic.
You already have one baby under 2 years? You can fly with a baby ( under 2 years old) on your lap while pregnant.
Pack smart – bring your pregnancy passport, doctor's note (if needed), snacks, water, and things that help you feel calm.
Important: If you can’t show how far along you are in your pregnancy, you might not be allowed to fly.
At the airport
Airports can be busy and tiring, but here’s how you can make your visit easier:
- Arrive early – get to the airport at least 2 hours before your flight.
- Take breaks – if you feel tired or dizzy, ask airport staff to help you find a place to sit.
- Find a quiet spot – some airports have quiet rooms where you can relax.
Tip: Keep your documents in your cabin baggage so you can easily show them when needed.
During the flight
Our crew is here to support you. If you need help with your bag or getting settled, just ask—they’re happy to assist. Please note, however, that they cannot provide medical care (like giving medicine).
Here's what you can do to make your flight more comfortable:
- Drink water – the air on the plane is dry. Water helps you stay hydrated.
- Move around – walk a little or stretch your legs to keep blood flowing.
- Wear compression socks – they help with blood flow and reduce swelling.
- Dress comfortably – wear loose clothes and comfy shoes.
- Use your seatbelt right – fasten it below your belly.
- Avoid salty food – eating too much salt can make your body swell.
After the flight
Well done — you’ve completed your journey. After flying, it’s important to take care of yourself. Here are a few things to keep in mind once you land:
- Take your time – don’t rush. Rest if you need to.
- Check how you feel – if you don’t feel well, talk to a doctor or visit a clinic.
- Be proud – flying while pregnant is a big deal. Great job!
